CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme

What is the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme?

Formally known as the Carbon Reduction Commitment, this new mandatory UK initiative is intended to manage climate change and energy saving within both private and public sector organisations.

The scheme encourages the reduction of CO2 emissions and improved energy efficiency by offering a financial incentive.  Also the scheme includes a national league table which will rank participants on energy efficiency performance.

Fact:   Approximately 20,000 businesses will be affected, about 6,000 will have to participate fully in the scheme and the remaining 14,000 will still have to make a legally binding Information Disclosure.

What are the criteria for CRC participation?

Your organisation will be obligated to participate in the scheme and comply with the legal requirements if it falls into one or both of the following categories:

FIRST         Have at least one half-hourly electricity meter (HHM) settled on the half-hourly market

SECOND    Have consumed over 6,000, MWh of half-hourly metered electricity during 2008

If you meet the first criteria you are legally required to make an Information Disclosure.  If you meet BOTH criteria you are legally required to register as a full Participant.
